The Remnant Code is posted in fine handwriting against one of the walls of the guild common room. It's edges are well-worn, as it has been studied many times. A small plaque hangs above it reading the following: "Study these virtues, all who call themselves one us, and may glory and honor be heaped upon your head for upholding them."
Valor
When the peoples of Azeroth made their stand against the Burning Legion they were all prepared to die in defense of their lands, their world. Their bravery saved our world and today, both the Horde and the Remnants strive to maintain that image of an unbreakable wall, shield to shield, refusing to yield against seemingly overwhelming odds. As Remnants, we must fight to our full ability when called upon, never yielding in the defense of others. Bear in mind that sometimes, pride must be sacrificed to save others, and so valor is not only found in strength of arms and magic, but also in the choices that are made by a person. Stand bravely against your enemies and protect your fellow Horde. This is your charge.
Unity
Above all, protect those you call your friends, brothers and sisters in arms. A warrior who stands alone dies alone. Consider your fellow guildmates as dear to you as your own family. If one is in need do not hesitate to aid them as best as you are able. Fight alongside them, help them find that which they need, and protect them when they are overwhelmed. Do not demand too much from your brethren either, for a hand that is always outstretched in want but never in help is unwanted among us.
Be the shield that blocks a mortal blow. Be the sword that strikes in the name of the Remnants. Be the one to lift your fellow warrior off the ground.
When fighting, it is your duty to ensure that weaker members are protected. The strong will protect the weak – this is our way. The world may believe that everyone must fend for themselves but this is the manner of beasts and we are above that. Watch over the less experienced Remnants and if a retreat is called be the least to leave the battlefield if you are the strongest. Do not leave any of your brothers or sisters behind unless it is to draw off an enemy long enough to let them escape.
Our strength is all the more when we stand together.
Honor
Conduct yourself with honor, for your actions reflect the entire guild. The Horde looks upon its other members and judges them for how they act in regards to others. Do not disappoint them, or the leaders of our esteemed allies. Give aid when you can to our allies. Avoid squabbles and petty disputes. We are above such things and we give honor and respect to those around us. In turn, honor and respect shall be given to us. Even if it is not apparent, the silent approval is worth far more than forcing a fool to back down. Mind your tongue, watch your actions, and at all times conduct yourself with dignity and pride.
Mercy
In times of war this is the virtue that is most often tossed aside because it is difficult and inconvenient. Mercy is seen as something for the weak only, as those who are strong should use their strength to destroy their enemies. Needless to say, tossing mercy aside, even in times of war, only gives rise to atrocities that, while lauded at the time, are written down in history as deeds as evil as those who commit them.
Mercy is not a sign of weakness. Know this, first and foremost.
To those that are weaker than you, show mercy. There is no honor in a battle that your opponent stands no chance in. It will leave only bitter ashes in your mouth and your name will become a curse to future generations. Do not kill those that cannot stand against your strength. Do not kill those who are weakened by previous battles and cannot stand because of their wounds. Do not indulge in senseless violence simply because we are at odds – remember, although we have made these choices to be warriors, we have also made choices to leave homes and loved ones behind, to sacrifice ourselves for our people.
So have the Alliance. Remember that.
Respect
The Remnants are gathered from all peoples that have shown their loyalty to the Horde. We must respect each other or else we will tear our alliance apart. Speak to one another with respect. Do not hold grudges or faults against each other – settle disputes peacefully. Respect them despite our differences. Do not harm one another for to do so would be to break the pact of brotherhood we all hold and vengeance will be the only response from the other members.
Judgment
The virtues extolled above are only effective when they are followed. When these virtues are held as one’s creed there will be no cause for discord or disharmony among us. However, if one were to break our virtues and bring conflict, dishonor, or any sort of evil upon us measures must be taken. Judgment is a virtue of the Remnants, one that must be used sparingly and with great discernment.
Do not take it upon yourself to be an agent of justice unless your conscience demands it. Otherwise, the officers of the Remnants should be used as arbitrators and executors of judgment. The word of the officers is final. Trust their wisdom, for no decisions are made without the consultation of others.
